From Carrigaline to Guidel

Travelling from Carrigaline to Guidel, our irish friends came and visit us. From the 21st till the 26th of May, around twenty people involved in the life of the twinning came and met their friends from Guidel. A lot of happiness and good humor during that week wich has been rich in tours and emotions.

The remarquable presence of elected officials

For this first visit for four years, our irish friends arrived in force thanks to the active presence of three officials representing the County Council of Cork. They renforced the idea that the twinnings remain a sure value of friendship

De Carrigaline à Guidel

Town’hall reception

With the presence of the sun, everybody was happy to meet. It’s with a splendid weather the « guidelois » received their irish counterparts.

The schedule has been busy in between the officials meetings, the tours of our Breton heritage and the artistic exhibition « Twin Art in Guidel »

22nd of May : touring to the Finistère department

We organised a day trip where we discovered l’anse de Rospico, passing by le village de Kerascoët et la pointe de Trévignon. A beautiful sunny day. For most of us, it has been a nice discovery. Going back home, we took a step in Pont-Aven, city of painters. It was on purpose for our present artists from the « Green Erin » for the « Twin Art exposition »

Music in Villeneuve-Ellé

After a day of work and exchanges, nothing is better than a share of music and songs. The « Calfats » from the city of Lorient had contocted a rythmic and warm musical break. They present a few hits of their brand new CD just edited.

What a pleasure to meet again authentic and joyfull.

Exhibit’s Inauguration

Four artists from Carrigaline were there. Jim Kelly, president of the twinning’s committee did exhibit his pictures and did present his book  » Granny’s Special Delivery » now translate in french  » Quelle belle surprise ».

Marie Mclnerney, painter, Linda Taylor, mixed media artist, et Frances Murphy with her candles.

3 elected officials of « Cork County Council » arrived for the inauguration. Ben Dalton O’Sullivan Chairman of the Carrigaline Municipal District, Nicola Radley et Carol Conway du Cork County Coucil.

On the afternoon they discovered with a lot of interest the city of Guidel, thanks to the participation of Yves from the Historical Committee.

Thursday Morning- Visiting the factory Le Minor

We organised a tour visiting the factory and the shop.

On the 35th anniversary of the twinning in Carrigaline, all the « Guidelois » wore a sailor sweater from Le Minor when they reached the irish soil and for our irish friends a sailor sweater green and white.

This visit allowed them to discover the French and Guidelois know-how. They will have a thought for Guidel when they wear their sailor sweater.

Gala’ Dinner

Many people came for dinner. It was a moment of sharing and conviviality, everybody did appreciate it. We were so happy to be together.

Before this moment of festivities, we exchanged gifts and of course speeches. As usually, Dinner was closed with music and songs.

Going back to Roscoff : Tourist’s Ride

After such a beautiful sunny week full of frienship departure is looming.

But beware ! It seems we’ll stop to visit the beauty of our region « les Monts d’Arrée » ! since then ready to go and driving towards a new discovery : Pleyben and les Monts d’Arrée with Saint-Michel de Brasparts Chapel. This monument is one of the most visited from Brittany. Just go and visit this jewelry renovated after the fire from last summer.

Everybody is enthusiastic just thinking of being together again next year in Carrigaline !

Each one goes back home with head full of projecty. For example exhibit some artists from Guidel who would be eager to discover the art gallery of Carrigaline  » OWENABUE ARTS COLLECTIVE ».
